Advice for Broadcast Delivery via FCPX
on Jul 31, 2017 at 4:09:44 pm

As a video producer, I have mainly been producing video for the web and DVD/ Blu-Ray. However recently we have been approached to distribute a program for broadcast. As this is a field we don't usually deliver to I am seeking to get advice on outputting for broadcast with the FCPX workflow.

Admittedly the requirement sheet (attached) looks intimidating to the point where I feel I need training at NASA, and goes further in-depth than I am used to, I also don't know how strict networks are regarding these kinds of specs. I understand about legal levels of broadcast within the video and to a degree the sound level, however the output I am unfamiliar with.

Our main cameras record only at 24mb (Panny AG-AC160) not the required 50mb. I notice on the sheet that the delivered file needs to be at a 50mb data rate. Does that mean that it is paramount that we hire broadcast cameras that record at 50mb to keep the consistency? or can I just export it as a 50mb file regardless of the native recording rate (24Mb) of the cameras?

Lastly, what would be the way to output from FPCX to XDCAM HD422 MXF files as requested on the spec sheet? We use Apple Compressor currently.

Any help and advice from someone who does this professionally would be greatly appreciated, especially any workflow / Apple Compressor guides.

Thank you very much.

Look up the process for sharing MXF OP1a files from FCPX. It doesn't matter what the camera specs are UNLESS the broadcaster has additional standards not listed in this document. Of course, the normal assumption would be that you started with a master that was at least at this quality or higher. However, that might not matter if the visual results pass muster when QC'ed.
