A mask will copy with the effect you apply it to, e.g.. copy the color board from one clip to another and the mask goes with it but you can't can't copy the mask from one effect to another.

Yeah that's not really a mask on its own- it's a mask for color correction so you do inside/outside grading. I.e. lighten or darken up a face vs a background etc. If you copy paste the color correction, the mask comes along.

If you want a mask in the sense of a matte with no related color grade, use Effects>Video>Masks.

Also with respect- I can see you are new to FCPX. You' get up to speed much faster if you simply google for basic questions and save the forum for the more complex workflow concerns.

Interesting,
how about a shape mask? is it possible to copy the same shape and keyframes where the mask is moving to another effect?
I tried with TrackX plugin, I can copy the footage to another layer and make a shape mask in the new layer and all the effects will show only in the shape
I dont need the tracking from that software, and in general it quite slow, and my triyal is going to expire soon... is there anyway i can have the same option to have several effects in one shape mask with out having to use the that software?

Thank you in advance

Draw Mask lets you draw a mask of any shape you like. Apply it to just one layer or apply it to a compound clip affecting a "group" as you mentioned earlier.
