How to burn a DVD-ROM in FCP X
on Nov 15, 2016 at 3:46:41 am

I have a client that needs both a playable DVD and the digital files for their website. I know how to do this in Adobe Encore, but how do I do this in FCP X 10.3? I've searched the net and found nothing. Are editors not giving clients media in this way? I find it useful as the client can play their video on a computer or in DVD player.

Thanks.

Steve

Hi Noah,

I read the link you sent, and while it does explain how to burn a DVD, I still see no option to add additional content on the disc. In Encore, as part of the DVD burning process, it prompts you if you want to add ROM content like the original .mov or mp4 files, that way it will play on both a computer and in a DVD player.

That's something you'd need a dedicated DVD authoring app for.

You can make a DVD compliant file (Video/Audio TS folders) out of FCPX, then in the Finder add those folders plus anything else and burn the disc in Finder.

Haven't tried this, but it should work.

Supposedly there is new DVD burn functionality in Compressor; haven't dug into yet myself. Rather, I keep an FCP07 system around just for authoring with DVDStudioPro, which does exactly what you're asking for.
