New FCP X plugin site BretFX with Free Template

Hello! After 15 years posting here can I get away with one shameless self promotion? I'm kinda excited to be starting a new FCP X plugin and template website, http://BretFX.com. The planned Grand Opening is Tuesday. I've got one template currently available that's a free download (Parks and RE-Creation), and two plugins (Outliner and Clock Maker) will be available and on sale half price starting Tuesday 8/16. Their video demos, plus another demo of another plug (available soon) are already up on the site. I've got a fourth plugin in development, but I'm still working the kinks out. I'd love to hear any feedback and suggestions you might have on the site and the demo videos in these few days before the "Grand Opening." Please poke around and of course enjoy the free template.

Thank you very much! -Bret

Congrats and best of luck with the new venture!

I really dig the side-by-side controls/results demo format.

Thank you Walter! I think that format might have simply evolved from my desire not to hear my voice on a demo as Mr. Ubsdell suggests in the post below. Shorter is better, right? If you need a good close look at some of the controls I wanted to get them in there. Even if you have to rewind and pause. Thanks again!

I think the format works as a promo. It's a good way to quickly show the potential of the setup and get people excited about what they can do with it. But I also think Simon's advice to provide expanatory VO makes a lot of sense as a tutorial for your customers. Horses for courses, right?

I think the short music driven piece is a great idea for getting people excited about the product and I really like what Bret has done with these.

Ideally there would be another more "matter of fact" VO driven piece that is simply a How To/Step By Step guide to actually working with the controls that also explains any basic concepts that might not immediately be obvious.

In my experience users hate reading manuals - which is reasonable enough, but sometimes an explanatory video is the best bet for satisfying that requirement. You might also find that users will miss key product features unless they actually see them in use.

Nice work, Bret.

The Clock Maker effect is very nicely designed - I'd say you could charge quite a bit more for it.

One suggestion: music edits are a fun way to present a product but it really helps to have a voice-over version to explain the basics of how it actually works step by step. What seems obvious to you in terms of the operation might not be obvious to the end user.

Best of luck with your launch.

I was afraid someone would say that! :) I do have plans to make some demos and tutorials. Deyson Ortiz of Motion Master Templates has had some great advice on launching my own website along the way and that is one of his big recommendations as well. If anyone hasn't seen Deyson's http://motionmastertemplates.com or Simon's http://www.tokyo-uk.com stuff you should check them out!

Thanks for the kind words Simon!

Thank you very much, good sir, for your kind words. I am happy to help.

Congratulations on your new store and remember to have fun! In regard to the VO on your tutorials, you could so one short one as a teaser and then another one as a full tutorial. I agree with tutorials, one the biggest compliments I receive is that I create fully detailed tutorials, this helps reduce customer support questions and also allows to answer any questions a new customer may have.

Best of luck and most important have fun! :)

P.S. I also agree, Simon's work is def worth a look. Tons of knowledge and skills! :)

Looks like I need to launch BrettFX.com for a little competition. :) Don't you dare buy that domain!

Oh awkward. Or are you messing with me? I wasn't aware of I had or not, so I clicked on the link in the post and.... Probably did because everyone misspells my name. Didn't realize you had website aspirations. Or are you messing with me? I set it all up quite awhile ago. Apparently there's a big online gamer @BrettFX and it appears his name is Aaron?
