Restoring pre 10.1 project kills entire edit
on Jun 26, 2016 at 8:13:50 pm

Hi,

I have an old project from 2013 edited with pre 10.1 FCPX. When updating using "Update Projects and Events" everything looks fine at first glance, all material is there including metadata but my project is empty, i.e. has zero duration, so all my editing work is lost. The project file in the original folder has 90k, so it does not look empty.

Are there any tricks? Someone recommended installing a pre 10.1 version of FCPX and finishing or editing the project using that version but where does one get such an old FCPX version? I'm still hoping for a better way to solve this. Losing my work in a screwed-up update process drives me up the wall.

Can anyone give me advice?

Thanks,

Robert

How far back are we talking? There were major changes at 10.0.3 that made updating projects tricky.

Is there a way to find out by looking into the project file? I tried naively by looking for strings in the form of "10.*" but did not find anything.

[Robert Krueger] "Is there a way to find out by looking into the project file? "

If there are content created dates that might help narrow down what version range it could be. That would say a lot.
