Video file won't play in FCPX
on Jun 9, 2016 at 4:09:57 pm

I have several video files from an interview shot on a Canon 70D that will not playback in FCPX. They will play in the finder, in QT, in Edit Ready and in Compressor... I have tried to convert the files to ProRes but the conversions still will not play video in FCPX. They will play the audio and show waveforms.

Any suggestions???

Thanks,
Craig

What file extension do the clips have? Are you sure you aren't looking at camera proxies?

No they are the standard Canon MVI_#### format and I've used a ton from this shoot already. I suspect there might have been an issue with the card -- who knows??? The weird thing is that they'll play in most everything but FCPX... I have some hope that I might have some success using Adobe Media Encoder to "convert" the file format to something playable, but any of the Prores conversions I've tried hasn't worked at all.

hmm- yeah that sounds like file corruption. If they open and actually play in QuickTime Player try saving them uncompressed.
