FCPX doesn't import layers on 5K psds

Is there a size limit to FCPXs compatibility with Photoshop layers? I created two versions of the same psd. One at 1920x1080, and one at the editing resolution (5120x2700). When I imported both psds, the HD one came in with layers, but the 5K one came in as a flattened photo.

I just tried it and it came in as layers.

Do you have any different layer styles or effects on the 5k one?

Yes. A few layers were text layers and contained drop shadows. I know layer effects don't pass through so I created new layers and stamped the titles with shadows. I figured that it would only import the layers that it could (ie: the stamped layers). Are you saying that if there any layers with effects on it that the entire thing will flatten?

I tried it again with FX and everything worked as expected. I know that's not much help but that's what I'm seeing.

Are you both using the same version of Photoshop, bit depth, etc? I'd try the file on a different machine and see if it's the file or that particular install of FCPX that has the issue.

I seem to remember 8bit files come in layered, but 16bt files are flat.

Could that be the issue?

The file is 8-bit and RGB. I made the 1080 psd with the same version of Photoshop as the 5k psd (CS4). I uploaded the file itself. I just know it's going to be some user error on my part, but if anyone has a moment to import this file into FCPX and knows why it comes in flat, I'd be grateful.

I did import your file directly in FCPX and it was flatened ...Then I opened it with Affinity Photo (app store) and exported it selecting FCPX compatibility, the resulting psd file imported with all layers available.

I took the file apart and stripped it down to the 3 shadowed layers and merged them. It still comes in flat. May be something to do with your version of PS.

I am running current OSX and FCPX and CS6 on my system. When I make a file it imports as layers.

This is why I have long ago given up on trying to use layered PS files in FCPX. I have often run into problems especially when FCPX gets updated.

What I do is use PSD as my working file and then export either JPG for full screen stuff or PNG for things with transparency. Never had a problem using this method and it saves me time in the long run.
