How to send??
on Dec 18, 2015 at 10:22:46 pm

Confused;

In FCP X, I know how to share a project to a destination, but when I send a project to compressor -- it puts the file in the MOVIES folder.

"How then to I get the finished project with the template, chapters, logos and I designed to burn to the Blu-ray?

I had a Blu-ray disc already the burner-- and thought a dialog would pop up and ask me "Burn Disc?". Its a very long project (3 hours, 1920x1080, 23.98 fps). It took compressor hours to encode it.

Just need to know where to go from here.

Thanks!

Use the File | Share | Blu-ray... option:

Then select the Settings tab to add the background, logo, etc.

John....

So whatever you send to compressor through FCP (after it compresses) you then go back to FCP to start the burn process. I was looking for a "burn step" from there.

I'm coming off of FCP 6, and got a ways to go -- and things are a little different here in X, but I'm slowly making the transition.

Thanks for a nice explanation...

No, there is no "send to compressor" with FCP X. Your compressor templates are integrated into FCP X. You can expose as many or as few as you'd like but they all show up on the Share menu and you never leave FCP X to use them.

So all you need to do is File | Share | Blu-ray... that's it! No other steps. Everything will be encoded properly and burned for you. One step right from within FCP X.

John,

I don't know what version of FCP X you have, but I have 10.2.1.

But if you go under "FILE" you can pull down to "SEND TO COMPRESSOR"

Thanks for you input!

Wow, I never noticed that before but you are correct I do see that option. Thanks for pointing that out. I can see how that would give you more control over the render parameters. I've obviously never used it and for creating a Blu-ray or DVD you don't need to.

John... The only reason you might need to use Send to Compressor, is that Compressor has several more parameters and options that can be set such as bit rate, anti alias, cropping, etc. I'm not sure if those can be accessed with just Share....but I'll double check....

You are correct and I want to thank you again for pointing this feature out because there have been times when I've wanted to tweak the bit rate while using share and I could not. I never realized there was a "send to compressor" option. This will definitely come in handy. :-D

Once the file has been sent to Compressor, from within Compressor choose "Create Blu-ray" as the preset. Choose the folder, not the two presets inside it. The last action of that preset is to bring up the same Blu-ray creation dialog you'd see in FCPX.

That last step is actually set up as the action at the end of the job. In the Job panel on the right you can set "When done..." to "Create Blu-ray" if you want to set up a preset like that by hand. (or I think you could, I've only ever used and tweaked the original preset).

Happy holidays...
