Multicam Clip + Audition feature?
on Nov 2, 2015 at 4:05:16 pm

I have played around with the audition feature in FCPX before, but havent really used it or relied heavily on it in a project until now. I have a project where I have a bunch of different people reading a bunch of the same lines. Normally, you just drag and drop a clip into another clip on the timeline and the audition feature will come up for you. Unfortunately, dragging a multicam clip into another multicam clip does not give me the audition feature option. It is greyed out. Any thoughts or ideas on this?

Yeah Audition does not work with Multicam. For that I would suggest cutting into the same timeline multiple takes and using disable/enable to present multiple options.

Thanks for the confirmation. Right now, I just use multicam as a quick way to marry my audio thats recorded separately with my video that has a scratch track - its not actually a multicam shoot. But I think Apple should definitely look into this. Id love to use audition in this way.

For that you should be using Compound Clips which can be used in Auditions. Multicams are for matching many different angles with multiple audio tracks.

Yea, I understand. I havent used compound clips much at all. I think it has something to do with when FCPX first came out, there was something about them that turned me off. And Multicam has been a breeze for matching audio with video. Nonetheless, seems like I will need to dig back into compound clips.

Thanks for al the insight!

To match audio with one angle, you use a synchronized clip. Those should be able to be used in auditions.

Also, I have used multicam for 3 cam shoots. Love it.
