Lost/misplaced my timeline
on Sep 5, 2015 at 9:51:09 am

I couldn't find a save feature after I did some story work on a project and when I opened FCPX the next day. I couldn't find the timeline.

How is saving done in FCPX? Where can I look for all my timelines/events?

I know it's there just not sure how to bring it back. Thanks.

[Will Keir] "How is saving done in FCPX?"
There is no manual saving in FCP X. Everything is automatically saved.
[Will Keir] "Where can I look for all my timelines/events?"
The easiest way to find your project is to open the Library Browser (Window | Show Libraries ⇧⌘1), select your Library and switch to "Show clips in list view" (View | Browser | As List ⌥⌘2) and scroll to the top of the list and you'll see all of your Projects grouped together. It should be in there. Doube-click on the project to open it in the timeline.

You should be aware that FCP X organizes your work into a hierarchy of Library -> Events -> Projects & Media. When you started your new Project, FCP X asked you which Event you want to add the project to. You should probably get into the habit of remembering where this is. ;-)

Thank you. It's amazing how a small little piece of information can put everything in the right direction. Much appreciated for taking the time.

At the top of the Library in the browser you'll see a set of default Smart Collections. There's one for Projects. In there you should find your edited sequence (project). Click on it to load it into the timeline window. FCPX constantly saves automatically. There is no "save" or "save as" function.

I believe what I did was to open an XML. This gave me a project that I worked with.

I checked all the library's. Couldn't find it. Where would an XML be saved?

The XML would have been its own event within the library you have open when you opened it. The project should be contained within that event and library. There's isn't any other XML except the original one. Where did that XML originally come from?

Things aren't adding up. I can't find the XML project anywhere. I beginning to think my memory must be the mistake. Possibility I opened the XML with Premiere and associated the work I did late with FCPX for some odd reason.

I'll keep looking until I've exhausted my resources. I'll probably recreate the work from memory to save time.

Thanks for the advice, at least I know thoroughly gone through FCPX and have a definite conclusion that it's not there.
