Sound clips all the time.
on Aug 30, 2015 at 4:40:42 pm

Hello all,
Never ever have had this problem before - for some reason the sound in the time line clips all the time. The original footage is Ok. I tried to import the sound separately and replace the one in the time line. No use. As soon as it gets in the time line it starts clipping. And it sounds pretty bad. Please help!
Thank you very much in advance.

[Lucy Slavinsky] "As soon as it gets in the time line it starts clipping. And it sounds pretty bad."

What are the specs of the source audio? For example, if it's 32-bit audio, which is common in the Adobe world, FCP X might have issues. Ideally, it should be 48K, 16-bit or 24-bit, WAV or AIF.

Thank you for your response. The project setting is 48kHz, ProRes. When I imported the fila a second time I just used the audio track to override the original one. The same problem - as soon as it placed in the time line it starts clipping. Do you need any other info? Thank you once again

Seems odd. What are the timeline settings? I presume stereo. Does it looks like your source tracks are being summed into a combined mono output? Try trashing your FCP prefs or try a new library and see if that makes any difference.

How are you listening? Is it routed through something or just the Mac's built-in speakers.

Yes it is stereo. I am not sure about summed tracks. How can I check if it summed? I trashed the preferenses. There iis still clipping in the old library, but no more clipping in the new library. Does it mean I have to redo 2 days of my work or there is a way to fix this problem in the old library. Thank you very much!

Try creating a new library and copying the project into it. With any luck the audio issue will be left behind.

I created a new library and copied and pasted the project. Unfortunatly, no luck. It is clipping. What else should I try?
Thank you!

Obvious perhaps, but have you tried lowering the volume of the clip? How many channels does the clip have? Is it visually clipping in the waveform? Is it clipping in the meters?
