Shape Mask changing size after export
on Aug 3, 2015 at 2:41:02 pm

Saw one other post on this with no resolution. Here are the details.

We do sports videos. We use an inverted circular "Shape Mask" on a black color generator to make a circular highlight appear around an athlete we'd like to designate. FCPX added that great updated "Shape Mask" filter that we can easily re-size to fit around the athlete on each clip.

The issue we've started to encounter is although the "Spot-shadows" as we call them are properly sized in FCPX after we send to compressor the size of the spot-shadow changes on the compressed version. See these images:

Any ideas? Please help, thank you!

Ben

At a guess, the filter/effect you generated was built with a different frame size than the footage it is being applied to. But that's just a guess. Does this come up if you pre-render the timeline before sharing to Compressor? What I'm getting at is that I don't think the problem is actually *in* compressor, but rather, in some step FCPX is doing in the pre-render.

If you compound that clip before sending to compressor, does that help?

[Mark Suszko] "I'm getting at is that I don't think the problem is actually *in* compressor, but rather, in some step FCPX is doing in the pre-render."

See the first image below everything rendered, looks correct, but then....

[Jeremy Garchow] "If you compound that clip before sending to compressor, does that help?"

... upon compounding the clip the error is duplicated in the FCPX timeline. See the images below.

Any clues here?

Sure, first compound the clip, then add the mask to the compound.

Sounds delightfully easy! We'll implement

I am having the same problem. I tried putting the mask into a compound clip but the problem remains. Has anyone found a solution to this?

I'm having the exact same issue. Video looks great in the final project edit, but when I export the Mask is moving. It's incredibly annoying - Would love to understand what we're doing wrong.

I've had the exact same issue, and I've yet to find a solution for it. Ben, have you figured this one out?

Try converting the mask to points, as described in this post by Charlie Austin: https://fcpxpert.net/2015/04/13/fcp-x-10-2-first-look/

The convert to points worked for me!

Thanks for the tip you saved me from some frustration!
