Serious problems with Generators (Match Move) in FCPX
on Aug 2, 2015 at 8:43:14 pm

I'm new to using Motion and I have just watched a tutorial on publishing generators to Final Cut Pro X.

In Motion I was able to track text to a building with no problems using the Match Move behaviour.
I then saved the Motion project and published it as a Generator to FCPX.

However, when I added the generator to my timeline in FCPX, the text did not track to the building any more, even though the preview video in the Generator tab was showing it tracking to the building.

I found I have to quit FCPX, launch it again and render the project, for the text to track to the building.

However, even when it is tracking in the timeline of the FCPX project, when I then export the FCPX video, the text has not tracked to the building!

Very frustrating and no idea where I am going wrong, so your help and expertise would be great here!

Why are you publishing something so specific to one particular shot? Or do you have a drop zone for the video and published the tracking controls too?

If it's just for the one shot just render it out of motion as prores.

As far as I know, tracking is one of those things in Motion that doesn't translate to FCPX. You need to use something like CoreMelt's TrackX plugin instead - or as mentioned, do it in motion and export the ProRes file.

That was a feature in 7 I used constantly: highlight something on the timeline, rag it up tot he bin, it's a fresh copy of the highlighted section of clip with whatever special effects and alterations came with it. Tried doing that this morning in x, and of course it won't play that game. I miss the feature.

Highlight the clip in the timeline, create a compound clip. You now have a copy in the Clip Browser complete with effects, etc.
