Timecode Generator Bug?
on Jul 31, 2015 at 7:45:35 pm

I am having an issue with one of my library / projects and the FCP X time code generator. Every time I add it to one of my projects in this library, it starts the time code at 01:00:03;18. If I add it to a different library, it starts at 01:00:00;00 as it should. I don't know exactly what to do. On top of that, for this particular Project, the timecode ends 3;18 off at the end of 01:26:42;07

The project files are 29.97 / 720p, all of the timecode start at 1:00:00;00. If I open up a project in another event, everything is fine, but in this event, all my project files start at 03;18.

Anyone else have this issue or know why this is happening?

Take a look at your different settings. 3:18 is the drop-frame versus non-drop-frame duration offset. TC numbers written with semi-colons indicate a drop-frame count. However, there's no such thing as drop-frame TC in the 720 world. Technically there's also no 720p/29.97 format. But of course, we all know that some software developers use drop-frame calculations for 720p TC and most NLEs accept 720p/29.97 project types.

Make sure your Timecode Base setting in the Generator matches your project frame rate.

Running a quick test, it seems like your 720p/29.97 project is set to start at 1:00:00:00 with the drop-frame flag unchecked. But your TC Gen is set to a TC Base of 29.97 Drop. This would account for your Gen display starting at 1:00:03;18 while your project starts at 1:00:00:00.

I hope that helps.
