Photo mask

I can't work out how to do this:

I need to drop in a varying number of stills at different parts of a project. What I want to do is create a mask which I can lay over a photo, resize and then move the photo underneath and then copy with those settings over to another photo so they all have the same crop size.

Any ideas?

Draw the mask on a solid. Resize the photo underneath to fit.

My first impulse would be to prep all the photos in Photoshop with a batch action or manually before import to FCPX.

But how would you move them under the mask if you did it in PS? When he says mive I assume he means animate.

You wouldn't need to mask them if they were already the right size, or did I miss something?

I imagined a mask like a vignette. But he can't apply it directly to the clip because he needs to move it within the mask.

Well, even if that's the case, pre-sizing them to get them in the ballpark can't hurt. But the description leaves something to the imagination.

Yep - sorry about that.

Basically say I have 3 headshots. I want them all to be the same size on screen but as we know you often get photos of varying resolutions. So I want way of creating a mask that can be the same size then resize the photo underneath - so the headshots are the same relative size e.g. head only. Any clearer?

Yes and no... so, why not use the built-in crop tool for that?
