Does FCP X automatically save projects? How can I play with things and not save them?

I notice when I close projects, I'm never asked if I want to save them. Does this mean FCP X is automatically saving them? I sometimes like to play around in a timeline and then, if I don't like what happened, just not save it. Is that even possible in FCP X? I'm guessing no and this worries me.

FCPX saves everything virtually instantly. I've had crashes, but never lost data or an edit. Use Snapshots as Noah suggests.
