How to prolong a clip after adding a transition?
on Nov 17, 2014 at 7:34:15 pm

Why can't I prolong a clip after adding a transition - I simply can't grab the clip handles. Do I have to delete the transition first? I tried to cmd + X the transition, then I adjusted the clip. My plan was to
paste the transition back - but this didn't work.

So whats the trick?

You might have to zoom in a but farther than you'd think, but you grab the upper right of the transition and drag the clip out longer. When zoomed in enough, you should see a little grabby thing there.

If you want a roll edit, use the trim tool T, and grab the middle of the transition.

Hmmm- ok, I`m on the left side of the transition, and I want to prolong this clip. When doing it without transition, it works good. But after adding the transition, I eat my way into the next clip. I usually add all transitions after doing the rough cut, but I need to do some fine tuning, and this is kind of annoying.

Like I said, grab the upper rt (or left if appropriate) of the transition and drag it out. If it doesn't look like this with the little || lines at upper left and right, you're not zoomed in enough.

Yes -I see that, but when prolonging the clip on the left side, it eats on the clip on the right side.Without transition its intuitive. But thank you Bret - Its not you, its me (-:

And by the way, I can do it with the Precision editor activated.

If you want to make the clip on the left longer, but not eat into the clip on the right, grab the little || marks at the upper rt of the transition and drag right. It will not eat into the clip on the right. It will push the clip on the right farther down the timeline.

That's it! Thanks. I did focus on the wrong side. Kind of tricky (-:
