Having problem when import an FCPXML into library
on Nov 11, 2014 at 3:14:02 pm

My boss has work on 3 different projects recently. I created 3 libraries for him. He cut 3 sequences from each project. Let's say Seq1, Seq2, Seq3.

At last, he told me that he need to pull stuff between these 3 projects to build a big sequence. I didn't have time to merge those 3 libraries before he start cutting. So that, he drag footages between the libraries to made a Seq4.

After he finish cutting, I am trying to combine all these 3 projects. I create a new library and I export all the sequences into fcpxml from the 3 older libraries. But, I am having problem when trying to import Seq4 into the new library. All the other sequences has no problem to import.

I have tried this several times with different Metadata View setting but I got the same error message.

The file "XXX.fcpxml"could not be imported.
DTD validation failed. (Element transition content does not follow the DTD, expecting (filter-video? , filter-audio? , (marker | chapter-marker | rating | keyword | analysis-marker)* , metadata? , reserved?), got (filter-video filter-audio spine )
)

I am not sure what that means. What should I do to make it work? Can anybody help me?

Katherine

From within FCP X, why don't you just drag the Events from the other Libraries into the library that you want to to keep. Then select that library and choose File | Consolidate Library Files... and all of the media will be consolidate (i.e., copied) into the one library? That should accomplish what it sounds like you are trying to do (i.e., consolidate libraries into one).

Hi John,

Thank you for your answer. when I import the the earlier Sequences. I already have all the media imported. I want to import the XMLs to avoid copies of the media files in the Event. When I just do drag and drop, I got 2 files name XXX and XXX 1. Is there a way to avoid that?

At this point, it may be easier if you create a new library. That would be empty. Then just drag the events from the original libraries into it and this will become your one consolidated library. The important thing to remember is that in the future, there is no need for import/export. Just drag and drop between libraries right inside of FCP X to consolidate them.

I had a similar problem this week. Not identical, but similar. The problem was with the original project itself. We created a new project and then cut and pasted everything from the non-working one into the new one and exported that xml, and that imported fine.

Hope this helps.

Best,
John

The error message means that there is a "bad" transition in the project.

Hello, Andreas. How did you know this error corresponds to a bad transition? I've searched everywhere on the internet and I can't find an explanation for this error. If you could elaborate or point me in the right direction, it'd be awesome. Thanks!

DTD validation failed. (Element transition content does not follow the DTD, expecting (filter-video? , filter-audio? , (marker | chapter-marker | rating | keyword | analysis-marker)* , metadata? , reserved?), got (filter-video filter-audio spine )

This means that FCPX double check when importing the XML it found an error for a transition.
So the XML which should be imported has an error at a transition and some of the possibilyties of what is expected for this transition.
To learn more look for FInalCutProXXML.pdf. It's not thatneasy to understand if you are new to XML.
