AVCHD 50p not Optimized

Hi,

we got a problem with footage originating from a Sony FS700 shot in 50p. The samurai on the camera didn´t run, so we have to use the media on the internal card.
But: The AVCHD 50p does´t play smooth at all (on a 2013 Mac Pro with dual700)
So we ingested again with optimizing media checked. But: FCPX doesn´t use the optimized clips, though they are being transcode during ingest and put in the Transcoded Media Folder.
I´m stumped, because some B-Roll Canon footage just works fine..

what are we missing??

[Eric Sternberger] "But: FCPX doesn´t use the optimized clips"

How do you know this?

[Eric Sternberger] "they are being transcode during ingest"

Which obviously has to finish before it can be used, yes. What does the background tasks window have to say about the matter??

They are finished transcoding.
The Info on the Video-Tab shows avchd instead of prores.
they don´t play. ProRes clips do play.

Info always shows the format of the originals.

[Eric Sternberger] " from a Sony FS700 shot in 50p. The samurai on the camera didn´t run, "

Thats because 50p or 60p frame rate is not supported in 1080 on the Samurai.

"The AVCHD 50p does´t play smooth at all (on a 2013 Mac Pro with dual700) "

TOO much overhead to play back the files, what storage are you using- needs to be pretty fast to support that frame rate

"I´m stumped, because some B-Roll Canon footage just works fine..

"

betting the Canon footage is 50i not 50p

I'm curious about the fact that you can't play the avc-hd streams.

I did a project earlier this year that was shot on a FS-700 where the guy shot avc-hd 100, and I was able to edit it, no problem.

The bitrate is about 116 Mbit/s, and I'm not even on a raid, just an single e-data drive.

I found that I could even handle two of the fat streams when I has better performance selected in FCPX.

Why can't you play the 50 Mbit/s video.

I'm on an old 2010 MBP.

Hi,

the problem is not the samurai. It did not run because of a misconfiguration by the DP…
So we had to use the SD-Cards with AVCHD-Codec….

But I´d like to know: Is an up to date Mac not powerful enough to play 50p AVCHD?
We are storing the Media on a Pegasus R6 TB2 Raid. That sports over 500 mb/sec…
Even in ProRes 50p is roughly 40 mb/sec...

I heard about problems with 50p when FCPX came out. But usually we shoot 50i because we deliver broadcast specs, so we never ran into this…

There is optimized Media in the Transcoded Media Bin. When we open that with Quicktime or mfx4mac it plays fine. In FCPX it´s just crap...

So, is FCPX the problem? A wrong configuration. Or is there anything wrong, at all?
