I wonder if Timeline Index lists them?

hi Lawrence.

In fact it list them but does not say if there is duplicate clips or frames. I believe is could have a way of doing it specially for those, like me, who records long events and need to do some kind of chronological editing …. lol.

Anyway, thanks for having answered me.

Fredy,
I believe there is a search field in timeline index and if you enter in the name of the clip it will filter and show how many times that clip is used. Clicking on each of the entries, in that list, will cause the play head to jump to the front of each.
Any help?

Lawrence

There is no "Show duplicate frames" functionality in X (yet), no. If you're looking for duplicate FRAMES you're out of luck. If just looking for duplicate CLIPS then the timeline index is your friend.

Has this been changed in 10.2 or is there still no show duplicate frames?

If you have used media ranges showing, I don't actually see how you could have dup frames, unless you did it on purpose.

It's very easy to have duplicate frames, or bits of a shot. Especially if you're trimming (extending a shot) in the timeline. To see duplicate frames in your timeline is quite handy.

Now, I do understand that if you see something is used in the browser, you wouldn't reuse it. But often I cut within a shot. If you're trimming to finetune, it's kinda nice to see where you 'hit' the previously used frames if you're using the continuation of a shot after a cut away. The information is so detailed, the browser is not gonna help you there. Not in one glance.

So yeah, I'd certainly like the duplicate frames to show up in the timeline. And it's a simple thing to programme, because this is just matching numbers/clip name/reel names.... All numbers...

True enough. I've been using FCPX intensively for the past few months now and am always surprised by how many things I find frustrating that you'd think would be available in a good editing application, like DUPE DETECTION.

I'm having too many WTF moments with FCPX compared to my WOW moments.

Scott, I feel ya'. I still enjoy the magnetic timeline and metadata stuff, so I'm sticking with it. I'm just hoping they make these basic changes...

BASIC changes... there's your problem right there. The things they need to change are BASIC...

Yep; still waiting for this.

Was looking for this feature because:

I'm making a montage of stills, and because of the way the jpgs were aggregated, there are some duplicates that have different filenames (aggregation was done with an IFTTT recipe that puts certain Instagrams into Dropbox.

Ended up with dupes but no quick way to reconcile them.

Sad day.

Very desapointed to realize "finding duplicates" is not possible anymore in FCP X.
It used to be in the former versions of Final Cut Pro. It's was so handy!
