letterboxing a project with lots of effects, titles

Hi there -

I'm editing a film trailer where all the clips are letterboxed. I also created titles in AE and I've used the letterboxing plugin in FCPX to have the titles match the clips' frame.

But here is my problem - all the effects/transitions - can they also be letterboxed?

I'm wondering if there is a way in FCPX to export the whole project letterboxed so all the clips, titles and effects match.

I tried to find some settings, even toyed with some custom settings in Compressor, but no luck.

Does Premiere do this...I could import project in Premiere as well.

Any suggestions would be great.

You can put the letterbox mask on an adjustment layer.

You could either simply place an adjustment layer over everything (http://www.rippletraining.com/using-the-adjustment-layer-title-in-final-cut-pro-x.html) and apply the desired letterbox effect to it (http://blog.alex4d.com/2012/10/28/alex4d-letterbox-fcpx-effect/) or simply set your PROJECT to the desired resolution after which it would simply be rendered out cropped. As a last resort you could also simply render out whatever you have and crop, letterbox etc. however you like in Compressor via a custom preset.
