Files shrink when re-linking in Final Cut X
on Sep 10, 2014 at 4:06:35 pm

Thanks for your help folks.

I've been saving projects as XML files, so I can clear space on my laptop when I need to, but when I import the XML file, and relink the files, half of them shrink by half their size and I don't know why.

It only seems to affect images and screen recordings of my computer, while Live action shots are completely fine. I've tried importing the files in normally, but they just shrink as well.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

Shrink how? In file size or pixel size?

Sorry, should have made that clear. It's in pixels, not the actual file size

Here's the original image

And here's what happens to it, when I relink it

Right click on the file and choose "Reveal in Finder". Does it take you to the original file?

If so, go back to X, open the inspector, and double check your transform settings (scale) and what is spatial conform set to?

Well it turns out that for some reason, when final cut relinks the files, it converts my original 1280 x 720 clips to 1920 x 1080 clips.

I checked the original file, and the scales, and they were the same as before, but when I switched the Spatial Conform from "Fit" to "None" it completely fixes it.

Thanks a bunch. You've really helped me with this one :)
