FCPX and 3 monitors.
on Sep 2, 2014 at 9:07:06 am

Hi...

I am using FCPX on 2 monitors and thinking of a third mostly for finder/safari. (until they make FCPX window optioned like AE, which I am sure they will) How well does this prog work with 3 monitors..... Does it allocate 1 for main and 1 for secondary. and how does it know which would be its secondary one?

I use AE extensively and it has loads of different window options.... BUT FCPX does not..... er at present.

Anita

Have you considered an ultrawide instead? I'm using FCPX and the rest of my Mac on an LG 21:9 and it totally rocks:

How is it for others apps? Any problems with ultra small text. It looks awesome.

I have three monitors connected to my Mac Pro. Two via Thunderbolt. One via HDMI. You can set up your third monitor to be an AV Monitor which means it will display full screen video. The other two will be primary and secondary.

It took me a little fussing with monitor arrangement to get it to work. I've never figured out how FCP determines which is secondary and which is AV. Primary is the one you move the main window onto, so it's easy to switch. You can use the third monitor for other apps if you turn AV off in FCP X.

Hi...

Thanks Brett, that was what I wanted to know... how FCPX allocated its monitors... SO accordingly you have got it to work. so its probably fine for me to buy another. my card has 3 slots.
THnaks.

I'm not sure if it can use all third monitors as AV monitors or not. I know specifically on the new Mac Pro it lets you use the HDMI as an AV Monitor. If you already have the card, it probably wouldn't cost much to try.
