Create multiple titles with the same X and Y starting point?
on Aug 6, 2014 at 9:52:35 pm

Hi Folks,

Grabbing something line the "Continuous" title effect, is there some way to create the first of a bunch of instances with a custom position for the starting X/Y position such that the additional instances use that same starting position?

I've been digging through the settings, and it seems that everything but the starting position is available.

Do I need to go out to Motion and create my own version?

Won't it work making the first title into a compound clip, then dragging it into multiple places in the storyline and after breaking the "parent" links, customizing each compound with new coordinates?

Seems like it should work.

It turned out to be even simpler than that - Copy and Paste. I was determined to find a "Cuplicate" option and the obvious totally escaped me.

Yes, IIRC that works for compounds that you create in a storyline. But I'm not sure it works for compounds you pre-creates in the Event Browser. I think the changes you make there are inherited across all instances of the compound placed in any storyline across Events. Unless I'm mistaken. No time to test it now.

Changes made to ANY compound clip (however that is relevant here) is recursive to it's existing instances, even across multiple projects, yes. It's irrelevant how and where you created it.

Yes, either copy/paste or simply OPTION-DRAG in the timeline! No idea why you would want to use or need a compound clip.

I remembered OPT-Drag last night. Like I said, I was totally overthinking the needed result and went 'round my fist, so to speak.

Oh, and I'm not using compound clips for this, just dropping the title generator where needed.

All is well now.
