29.97fps GOPRO converted to 23.98fps 5D in FCPX

Hello,

Thank you to anyone taking the time to view my question, it is greatly appreciated.

I have created a 4 minute music video in FCPX.
Each clip is approximately 1 second long.
When playing through the video jumps/glitches when changing between gopro and 5D footage.

I have become aware that my issue is the different fps.

GOPRO (29.97) 5D (23.98)

After some research I have read and attempted without success;

1. When I begin a project I have the option to set the rate 'based on the first video clip' OR
'custom select' the rate.

2. Conform the current gopro clips to match those of the project.

Q; Can anyone offer me the simplest way I can convert the gopro footage to 23.98fps within FCPX. Can I do this without alternate programs?

Any advice would be wonderful.

Marty

Go the other way and put your footage in a 29.97i timeline.

The GoPro footage will remain, and the 5D footage will have pulldown added automatically.

Thank you Jeremy, I really appreciate your response.

One final question please;

Is there any way I can import the nearly finished movie into a (new 29.98fps project) without having to rebuild it.

So a simple transfer of the current 25p project into a new 29.98 one?

If so, can you please step it out for me as at present I cannot figure out how to achieve this without rebuilding.

Still learning this program.

Utmost gratitude once again.

Marty

Are you coming from a 25p timeline?

Do you have 25p footage too? So you'd have 23.976, 29.97, and 25?

Hello Jeremy,

Yes the current state of my project has been built in 25p.

And the footage has been shot in 29.97 and 23.98. Gosh that feels terrible to write.

Moving forward;

Is there a step by step process you can run me through whereby I can duplicate the project into a 29.97 format.

In attempting this I was able to begin new projects at the 29.97p, but not transfer the entire built video into it.

Can a once built project in 25p be transferred across to a new 29.97p project keeping all the current work in tact?

Is there a way or am I officially scr@wed?

First, you'll need to make a 29.97i Project (not p).

Select all in your 25p Project and then copy/paste in to the 29.97i project.

You may have to adjust a few cuts here and there, but it should work reasonably well.
