Effects/Transition on Top layer Affecting Bottom/main layer

How to I NOT do this. Ex. Trying to "blur zoom on" a logo key over top of bottom layer which has the main background. As I apply this to the top layer, It also "blur-zooms" the bottom layer. I just want to
bring in that logo on top of the background without the background layer be affected at all.
Thanks,
David

Are you using a transition? Try using just the effect called "zoom"

Set the look parameter to variable and keyframe the amount.

Thanks, I will check that when back at work Monday. I do believe it was the "blur" under effects, but not sure of the Zoom function-if it was in the motion tab-(sorry, old FCP7 terminology) or an effect.

The zoom effect is a zoom blur effect. It'll do it without affecting the layer beneath.

Some effects are built specifically for transitions between full-screen video and will not work with titles or other keyed elements such as a logo. Some of them can be modified in Motion to work correctly with titles by turning off the A or B layer.

I think I know what you are trying to do and I was asked this before.

If you have the logo on top of your video and then you ad your transitions to it, I think you then need to make the logo and transition a compound clip.

A person I know wanted to make a bloom title come on screen without having it effect the video below it.

This is how I did it.
