Some Chapter stuff
Few weeks ago I was asked how to get a text chapter list out of FCPX.
I built a little app which is able to do that beside several other things.
Now last week I was asked how to export each chapter as movie. I thing everybody knows the answer. I/O, Share enter the name and tags and go.
But it turned out that the timeline (and other coming) has about 170 chapters. So the standard procedure would not only be boring it also will be time consuming.
There are apps outside which can split a movie into several referenced "chapter movs" but the don't keep the chapter names.
I decided to write a little script app which uses a chapter txt file to script QT Player 7 to split the whole big movie into small referenced ones using a naming convention: movieName_counter_chapterName.mov
This process is very fast.
I know most of you will never need it – but just in case.
So in FCPX set the displayed time to frames.
Launch my X-Type List.
Then click to import chapter markers.
Save the result as a text file.
In FCPX export the whole timeline with chapters.
Once done launch the little movieChapterSplit app.
Follow the steps. Select movie, select the text file you saved before and select a folder where the "chapters" should be saved.
Takes a few seconds and everything is done.
This not only works for chapter markers. It work for everything which can be shown in the timeline index.
