16gb ram imac (2011) locking up in FCPX

I need help figuring out what type of conflict is causing FCPX to lock up. With 16GB ram I should be screaming. The lockup does not clear and a option command esc does not let me force quit other apps.
The last two lockups had only FCPX and safari running.
I found a mac rumors banner del and stopped it.

I'm not sure where to start and I've got a job to get out.

It happens when I do a key, sometimes after adjusting luma.

Any ideas?

What version of FCP X are you running?

FCPX 10.9.1

I'm wondering if it locking up or disabling the mouse and keyboard because the magic mouse appears to turn off.
I had a problem with my 2008 mac pro where upgrading to mavericks permanently disabled the mouse and keyboard. I had to go back to lion.

It's puzzling. I read of numerous accounts of mavericks creating problems with keyboards and mouse function.

Have you trashed prefs and repaired permissions? Also, I'd run Disk Warrior if you have it. That's what I do when weirdness happens.

I am running mavericks and I cannot find final cut pro x preferences anywhere. I've googled tip I'm worn out! Where are they? How do you trash them?
And while I'm at it how to repair permissions as well?

Digital Rebellion has a free app called Preferences Manager. That allows you to trash them, store them, etc. You repair permissions using Disk Utility (in your Applications folder>Utilities). Start Disk Utility, select your drive and click repair permissions. Don't bother verifying, just repair. Also, if you don't own Disk Warrior I suggest you get it. It has saved me uncountable times. IMHO every Mac owner should have it. In Mt Lion, go to the Finder>Go menu, hold down Option and the Library folder will appear. Look for com.apple.FinalCut.plist in the Preferences folder.
