TimeCode disappeared

I have a strange problem:

I have the following SD QuickTime file from the studio where our show is recorded:

MPEG IMX 625/50 (50 Mb/s), 720 x 576 (1048 x 576)
Linear PCM, 24 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
Linear PCM, 24 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz

When I import it in FCP X, the original timecode is gone. When I convert the file to ProRes and then import it in FCP X, the original timecode is there again. The TC is important because I want to make a multi clip.

I have tried this on 3 different computers and the same happens there. I was hoping that the 10.1 update would fix this for me, but it didn't.

It is not a big problem, but ProRessing all the material is a lot of work and I am curious what's causing this.

Thanks, Micha Blazer

Hi,

are you getting your files off an EVS server (XT2 or same)?

Yes it's from an EVS.

We're dealing with similar issues as it seems EVS is not writing TC in a way that suits FCPX (it worked fine with FCP7).

Transcoding helps with the TC issue but wastes time.

Having said that, since you want to create multiclips and you are using v 10, why not sync using audio? You can set tc for the start of your multiclip (options) and this way you should not be far off your script notes.

hope this helps
