The limiter output is set at -4.5 db, I'm raising the gain in the plug, and yet the audio meter is registering way past 0 db. Any thoughts on why that is?

The Gain control and Output interact. I suggest you set the Gain until you see the limiter working in the Gain Reduction meter, then adjust the Output where you want it. You can then play with the Gain & Output until you're happy.

What I don't get is why the output level is not acting as a ceiling when I set it to -4.5. The audio meter is showing over 0db. Thanks for reply

It's just the way it works. Other limiters like many made by Waves allow you to set absolute output levels.

The standard Logic Limiter acts as a complete brickwall so whatever your output value is what your meters should read no matter how hard you drive the gain.

Are you sure you've got it on the right channel?

The Adaptive Limiter works differently but it doesn't sound as though you are using that.

Is the overall clip volume at zero? Or are there any other effects on the clip?

If there are other clips playing at the same time, it adds to the output level. There may be some audio that's hidden until you expand all your split tracks.

I did a test, and I can't get the clip over the limit I've set by changing the gain, so I don't know why you'd be having problems.

[james Lackleter] "The limiter output is set at -4.5 db"

Are you using the Limiter built into the Compressor or the standalone Limiter?
