FCP X Motion and After Effects workflow

Since getting to know X it has quickly become my NLE of choice. Still there is the lack of the "Send To Motion" option. I will be primarily be doing basic motion graphics and lower third work in Motion but will use After Effects for more complex stuff because it has expressions. Is there any product out there that will allow me to ship my timeline from X to either Motion or After Effects? What would be the best one?

Happy New Year to Tim Wilson, the COW staff and everyone on here. A new year is fast approaching!

Clip exporter in the App Store will. But don't expect it to recreate anything but the media and straight forward cuts.

Another option is to use Xto7 to create and save an XML.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xto7-for-final-cut-pro/id487899517?mt=12

Then in Ae, use the File > Import > ProImport Ae menu.

Are you talking about xto7 or clip exporter? Not sure if exporter is still supported, but it works with 10.1 so should be good for awhile. Xto7 is certainly supported, but how long 7 will still function is anyone's guess.

Xto7 is what I am talking about.

All the others are not developed anymore.

Xto7 translates to XMEML. Adobe also uses XMEML and have made significant changes to it since CS5.

Also, Xto7 has made improvements to help translations to CC.

Right now, it's the most developed option and available from the AppStore. None of the other options are available at the AppStore.

That's too bad, clip exporter was pretty decent. But x to 7 is better for sure. I just keep forgetting you do't actually have to go to legacy in-between. Why don't they rename that thing already?

[Bret Williams] "I just keep forgetting you do't actually have to go to legacy in-between. "

That's right, it can simply save a translated XML.

XtoXMEML doesn't have the same ring to it.

XtoPr doesn't work plus it's too close to XtoPro

XtoPremiere?

XtoCC? Ecstacycy?

Xto7 is a good option, untill you want to send to Motion.

It obviously does not work with Motion.

I was speaking of Ae/CC specifically.

I have used clip exporter but I think that Jeremy is correct in the most up to date support for Xto7 being a good thing. I used clip exporter to transfer a green screen edit to AE for finishing and ended up with a few bugs in the timeline. Specifically little 1 or 2 frame gaps at random places in the timeline. (Final cut PRo X 10.09)

I like the workflow that Clip exporter brings to final cut but I guess the new final cut XML is still a moving target. I hope that AE will add a direct import of Final Cut Xml like we had with Automatic duck. I do not want to have to round trip through Premiere to add another layer of troubleshooting conform issues or keep a full install of Final cut Legacy just to get to AE and back.

I do not use Motion nor intend to. AE is my jam and the more interoperable our software lives become the better. I have never used Final cut as a compositor/motion graphics box. I expect it to edit and edit well. I will use tools and plugins in other software that do what they do better. I want final cut to be a stable NLE that plays back video in real time the way god intended. It should handle the organization and culling of the massive amounts of video imported and that is it. Then it should be able to export this work for further polish in other software.

I am too young to be this much of a curmudgeon!

James
