name in quicktime different from file name
on Jul 8, 2013 at 7:15:23 pm

-The Project name is Lebenon Video 1 in FCPX
-I exported the project using share project...master file...H264
-renamed the file in the finder
-When you open the file in quicktime the file name is still Lebenon Video 1 at the top of quicktime. I figured I could click into get info and change something so that it reflects the appropriate name but that is not the case. Any idea's? Is this metadata hardcoded in? Is there any way to change this or do I have to change the project names and export from FCPX again?

Below is the screenshot:

When you share, there is a title, a description, and a creator. The title is the metadata that appears at the top of the quicktime window. It is also the default for the file name. But if you change the file name on save, OR after the fact, it still doesn't change the title.

So you have to be careful. The title starts off as the name of your project. For example client version 1,2,3 etc. But it could also be "stupid f#%kin client changes v3" if you're not careful. And even if you change the file name before emailing it, that will still show in the title bar!

[Bret Williams] ""stupid f#%kin client changes v3""

Do you have that as a Motion Template?

I also have QT 7 Pro and actually tried to see if it had the functionality to change the metadata. I wasn't able to find it. Do you know something that we don't about QT Pro 7

With your exported video file open in QT Pro, hit 'Command - J' (or, from the Window menu, choose 'Show Movie Properties'.

There, with the topmost line item selected, you will see a tab for 'Annotations'. The Title annotation is the one displayed at the top of your movie window.

Open the QT-Movie in Quicktime Player 7 Pro, CMD-J (properties) and delete the Annotation "title"; ("Remove Selected Annotation" while selecting "title") Then the title will change to its file name.

Cheers!

There's a free app called MetaZ that enables you to edit the metadata of mp4 files.
