In FCP7 I was able to create a sequence at 1920 x 816 and then export natively. I can not change the aspect ration in FCPX to an unnative ratio.

I simply want to end up with an 1920 x 816 mov for upload onto vimeo (who handles it like a champ). Very basic question that I'm sure apple handled in FCPX or compressor. If not then who is working for that company?

Is your source footage 1920x1080? If so have a look at my 2.35:1 tool, Cinemascope Toolkit:

Paul, does the tool allow a simple change to the modern widescreen aspect ratio of approximately 2.39:1 adopted in 1973? Digitally for 2K that would be 2048x858.

Rick,

The tool is simply a matting kit that "crops" a 1.78:1 source to 2.35:1. The Compressor Presets handle the cropping upon output ...

Thanks all around. I downloaded the toolkit, the functionality looks great and is exactly what I am looking for. Far superior to the letterbox filter that is included.

The workaround is also great for potential projects with strangely oriented screens.

Thanks again

This might help. It's sort of a work around, but seems to get the job done. Just tried it myself and it works great.
