Pantone colors in FCPX

Hey Color Savvy Folks,

My client has given me several Pantone color numbers so I can create a custom gradient background in FCPX. My gradient choices use RGB values or HSL values. I tried using the dropper, but it won't leave the color gradient box. I tried Photoshop RBG numbers, the color gradient has RBG values as a percentage.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

In the color box if you pull the small triangle down, you get the color gradient field to select from, however if you click on the solid color box to the left of the triangle pull-down, you get the old friendly apple color selector. You can go RGB, CMYK and HSB, or if you select the magnifying glass you can select a pixel from ANYWHERE on your mac's screen.

We do this all the time. In photoshop create and image with some decent sized color swatches using PMS colors. Make sure you work in RGB. Import that image into fcp x and then use a color picker to sample the colors. Then drag into the sampled colors to the "well" at the bottom of the apple color picker. Then just use those patches in the well as needed.

If you happen to see a color shift when you import into fcpx then just sample the colors from the photoshop window instead.

Does that make sense?

And hurry.

Rumor has it that Pantone is changing their entire color description system.

The swatch books that I've been using for 15 years are on their way out if what my designer friends tell me is true..

Sigh.
