How can I get files / Clips from Canon XF300 camera into FCPX
on Mar 11, 2013 at 7:13:44 pm

Can anyone give me the secret to importing files from my Canon XF300 Camcorder into FCPX please.

I have tried searching everywhere for this info but keep coming up with a blank.

I downloaded a Plugin but unfortunately it was for the FCP 7 version but it didn't work. I have downloaded The Canon XF Utility but again, although I can see the clips in the Utility I am still unable to get them into FCPX.

I am now exhausted without any idea of how to get this done.

Please any help would be welcomed.

Regards

Fred

I don't own an FX300 but according to a quick search of this formum, Canon do have an FCPX comparable import plugin (released about a year ago) & for the import to work you need to work directly with the CF card or an exact copy of it if you're archiving to HDD.

http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/camcorders/D...

.... Has the x import utility which wil import and the transcode.

Alternatively use the XF utility to import the MXFs then use Resolve to transcode to Prores.

I edit footage off my XF100 with no transcode all the time.

You need the Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X (current version is 2.1.1) which allows FCPX to read the MXF archives:

http://www.usa.canon.com/nw3s/CanonUSA/DownloadContents/English/0200247102E...

To ingest the files, first I use the XF Utility to create an archive/copy of the CF memory card.

Next, I go into the import function in FCPX and select the archive which is in the "XFUtility" directory. The archive will have a name of the form yyyymmddxxxxxx where yyyymmdd is a date the archive was first created and xxxxxx are some other numbers. I then select either "Import selected" or "Create Archive....".

This is the procedure I use for an XF105 which is the same process as the XF300. It is worth making sure that you have the current versions of both the XF Utility and the FCPX plugin.

The canon XF utility release notes specifically say it is not comparable with Snow Leopard. You need 10.7 or better.
