grave key (same as the tilde key?) not working on non-US keyboards?

Hello.
I bought the latest Ripple Training tutorial for FCPX a while ago. I went through the "The grave key, your new best friend" chapter. I tried it on my Italian keyboard, and it does not seem to work. On FCP7 I had to modify the keyboard layout to US in order to have all of the shortcuts available, maybe it is the same case here, but I don't know how to do it. And is the £grave" key the same as the "tilde" key?

Final Cut Pro Menu>Commands>Customize. Then search for Override Connections. You can then re-assign this function to another key.

You need to make sure the tilde key is set in the customise commands menu,.

I am not sure what the command name is, I gave a look at the custom commands but I have not found something that could sound like that "temporary unchain" or similar.

I went through the whole set of custom commands and no grave or tilde key appears. On FCP7 I could change the keyboard layout from within the application and set it to US so that I could use the standard shortcut. I can't find something of the sort in FCPX.

Are you using the default set of commands?

If not you need to assign the tilde key to the command "Override Connections" in the "Editing" shortcuts group

Postings above have said it but let me attempt to guide you in…

With Final Cut Pro X open, go to menu Final Cut Pro > Commands > Customize.

When the window pops up, enter 'connections' in the upper right search box.

'Override Connections' will appear in the lower-left quadrant as the only listing. Highlight the listing.

Press the tilde key.

Close out the box and that's it.

Tip: To make the Override Connections 'stick' so you can use your fingers for other things, hold down the Grave (tilde) key, then press and hold the Option key, then release the tilde key, then release the Option key. The symbol for Override Connections will 'stick'.

Thank you, problem solved. Everything is up and running now. I did not know the name of the command was "Override connecyions", so I was searching on a command showing a "tilde" key in the command list before setting it to another key. Searching with the right name it showed up, not connected to any key. At first the system refused to attribute the command to the key in the same position of the "tilde" (a backslash in an Italian keyboard) as it was part of a default set and reserved to FCPX, then I could make a duplicate and make it work. I think it is a very useful tool!
kind regards and thank for your precious help.
