Tangent Element jog wheel strange behaviour
on Aug 28, 2012 at 3:34:43 pm

Hey,

I am experiencing a very weird Scratch behavior when trying to use the Tangent Element jog ring, and would like to know if I am the only one.

First, I can't seem to find a way to jog backwards, only forward. But even this works strange, because it's just a matter of touching the wheel and it starts playing forward like on "play". To make it stop I have to "jog forward", but it only stops the motion, it doesn't actually move backwards.

On matrix > settings > configure panels, I have tried all combinations I could think of envolving the wheel (control number 0000d1012) and the commands "JogFwd" and "JogRev", including different mappings (0, 1, 2) and scales (1 and -1).

Nothing helped. Any ideas?

Also would love to see a suggestion for using the jog wheel trackball on Scratch, and also its LCD (oops, OLED) display, which so far is blank in my setup for lack of ideas.

Thanks,

Pedro

I think, there may be something wrong with your cs_mappings file.
The default mapping works fine and shows everything needed on each display.
You can find it under C:/Program Files/Assimilate/Settings.
There's a cs_mappings_element.xml - copy it to
C:/Program Data/Assimilator/Settings and rename it to "cs_mappings.xml".

Now make sure the selected Scratch-User dosen't bring his own mappings
(stored under C:/Program Data/Assimilator/User/cs_mappings.xml).
If this is the case and you want to keep them, just create a new user - it will
by default use the cs_mappings file you just copied.

If that doesn't help, you might have found a bug inside the Tangent Firmware on the panels,
which can occur on FW-versions earlier than 1.1.9.
There should be a fix for it available from Tangent - but you have to contact them via support-address.

Hope this helps^^

Hey Matthias, thanks for the reply.

Actually my real problem is only about the jog wheel; all the Element's displays work fine. I as just looking for sugestions on what to do with the display above the jog wheel, since I couldn't think of any... :)

Anyway, I have been looking at these map files before and will check them again... could be something there indeed. I only worry about losing any of my carefully crafted mappings, but guess I can make backup copies before messing with them.

Best,

Pedro

Sure you can - make a copy of your User under
C:/Program Data/Assimilator/User/*Username*
and copy it back if your new settings are messed up ;-) .

Hi Pedro,

You can also try putting the panel into test mode (see the user manual you can download from our website for full details).

To do this plug the panel into a computer that isn't running our Hub software or isn't running any colour grading software that uses the panel.
When you see the Element-Mf logo come up on the display, press the 'A' button (you may need to wait a couple of seconds before pressing to give the panel time to boot).
You should now see a screen that lists all firmware version etc.
Turn the jog wheel and you will see the encoder value from the jog displayed. It should go + if you turn it to the right, and - if you turn it to the left.

Let me know how you get on. You can reach me via the Tangent support email address.

Cheers,

Chris
