AE CS5 and Assimilate Scratch and LUT...
on Aug 1, 2010 at 1:47:32 am

There isn't an Assimilate Scratch forum, but maybe this will work.

Before I get to my problems let me just say what we need to do.

1) We need to color grade our RED (.r3d) footage in Assimilate Scratch.

2) Then save the LUT out of Scratch as a .3dl file.

3) In AE CS5, "Apply Color LUT".

Boom, supposedly a fast an easy way to grade footage and work with it in AE without having to export.

Our only snag is Appling the LUT in AE. AE just simply says its unable to apply the LUT. I know it needs to be "Integer" and not "Floating Point" according to this...

However, I see no indication in Scratch that the setting of such items is available.

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

The current version of After Effects CS5 is not able to use these LUTs. Though I can't comment explicitly on when updates will occur or what features and fixes might be in them, I can say that we are working on a fix that would add support for Assimilate Scratch LUTs.

(Just as a test a colored the footage to be completely red.)

I figured out that if you change all the setting in Scratch to 10bit AE CS5 will import the LUT but it seems to do it with some kind of color shift.

Would changing the footage interpretation or the source setting in some way fix this?

As I said in my previous post, the current version of After Effects is not able to use these LUTs. Pay attention for future updates.
