How to create a "camera clock synced" timeline w/ 5D footage
on Jun 4, 2012 at 9:07:16 pm

I have a URGENT question...

I am working on a doc in Bosnia Herzegovina at this very moment and we are having a hell of a time syncing audio and film.
I think that part of a problem is our current set up so I will explain.

We have to 5D Mark ii cameras,
1 Sound guy (with Lav / boom)
1 5d is using a shotgun direct into the mic port
the 2nd 5D has a Zoom on camera along with the 5D's shit onboard mic.

Both the Camera's and the Soundguys audio is getting shut off from time to time
resulting in tons of files (both Audio and Video)

We have tried Pluraleyes with varied luck
the 1st day (a very short day) this worked.
the second day... not at all....

I was thinking that if we could make a timeline for the video that was in line with the camera's clock (time spaced) with spacers added for the times when not shooting...

ie. if we start shooting at 1pm and stop at 5pm and turned off the camera for 15 mins 5 times throughout the shoot then those 15mins of "dead space" would be represented as "spacers" in fcp... and if the audio from our sound guy and Zoom was rolling all day that this may be a solution?

if anyone has any tips or a workflow or any advice KEEPING IN MIND that we can not acquire any more equipment at the moment as we are on set and in BiH where there are no renal houses or retailers that can meet these needs....

Any constructive advice is greatly appreciated.
