In honor of MC First, here's the evolution of their previous freebie, (Avid) Pinnacle Studio for iPad. 😃 I had heard about LumaFusion a while ago, saw it was on sale for 20 bucks so... Wow. This little thing is seriously cool.

It's kinda like an amalgamation of different NLE's and it fits in your pocket.

Video clips with audio "components" that you can detach. 3 A/V Video and 3 Audio only "tracks". Disconnectable Clip connections to the "primary" clip. Keyframeable audio levels and video transforms, an audio mixer, recallable workspaces, Syncs with DropBox, Box, and other cloud storage, a pretty decent title tool, decent basic effects and user creatable effects presets. Basic Color Correction (saveable presets). Multiple aspect ratio and frame rate presets. Works with 360 video. various export settings. etc etc.

I got it for laughs, but you really can cut stuff on this. On your phone.

I have a 5S and it was way too small, but it works. On an iPad it would be great. Allegedly FCP XML (I think the crappy old fcp6/7 version) output is in the works. In any case, well worth 20 bucks.

I think the FCPXML transfer will be via a separate desktop app that's in development. This is one of the more sophisticated programs coming to the iOS market. The big thing is that is correctly deals with fractional frame rates, with iMovie for iOS butchers. Of course, you'll get the most out of it on an iPad - preferably Pro, but newer Air2 is fine as well. Another iOS editing option is TouchEdit.

I've been testing LumaFusion (by LumaTouch) a bit more. Very cool in the iPad. A recent Air2 will do, although I'm sure it's even better on the Pro models. Almost like FCPX for the iPad. Quite a few real-time effects. Easy to get external media into it via Dropbox.

Nice article. Can I start a project on Luma Touch and finish on FCPX?

[Scott Witthaus] "Can I start a project on Luma Touch and finish on FCPX?"

Allegedly XML output is coming, but it's the old skool FCP 6 xml. Go to their site and suggest .fcpxml :-)

Thanks Charlie -

I guess I could have read the ENTIRE thread and not wasted your time! But I will go make that suggestion. I was really hoping that iMovie for the iPad would have some sort of export function....or did I not RTFM? :-)

[Scott Witthaus] "iMovie for the iPad would have some sort of export function"

You can go from iMovie iPad to FCPX. The trouble is that iMovie on the iPad destroys the frame rate. So it's useless for anything other than vacation videos.

You actually can get from iOS to X, just gotta go through MacOS iMovie as an intermediary. :-)

Do you know this from them? I was told directly that they would optimize the exports specifically for each NLE and were trying to also make sure effects would translate.
