Purchasing FCP X
on Jul 6, 2011 at 7:53:13 pm

Hello,

I'm a tv/online media producer looking to learn Final Cut. My question is: Is it worth purchasing and learning FCP X or should I go with a prior version. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris

You can't go with a prior version. Apple pulled FCS2009 from all the VARs/vendors as well as their online store of course.

I personally believe FCPX is worth learning. It's not what I'd use to start a business right now. At $400 (Motion and Compressor including), it's worth investigating while you use Avid or Premiere if you're making an NLE purchase for a business.

Download the demos of Avid/Premiere. Go to an Apple Store and try X. Pick the one you like the most.

If you're brand new to editing you'll likely find X to be the easiest to learn of the 3. Then it really comes down to what you need it to do.
