Ha ha - I saw this on the Win10 roadmap a while ago, so I'm anxious to finally see it in person. I also want to try Wacom's Surface device (https://youtu.be/lgHCPE-8hk8).

I can't wait to see what people will do with this. I'm betting that children will be making really interesting environments using simple tools like Paint 3D and VR devices.

No denying, it's dead sexy.

I wasn't a huge fan of touch-edit "finger-panting" a timeline with the screen at 90 degrees... but at 20 degrees, plus the knob... I might like to try it.

Seems like a big potential thread to the Cintiq.

Not really much of a threat to the Cintiq, because animators/illustrators don't really draw at that angle and need a sturdier platform to press down on like a light table. The Cintiq has unique thumb controls mounted on the monitor to allow for easier modal switching. I'm curious as to whether the parallax of pen to screen will be acceptable to artists.

Maybe the 20 degrees is perfect for a standing desk?

Whenever I saw angled touch screens I used to wonder how they will set up the room lights to be out of eyes and screens. I am not sure that angle is OK for that sort of lighting but hey the days of having a dedicated ergonomic room are long gone. I'm sure kitchen bench editors and graphic designers will love it.

They sure are trying to out Apple Apple for style and gimmick. I wonder if it has heat issues?

Penny Arcade illustrator Mike Krahulik says it totally beats the Cintiq:

Certainly makes the iMac seem long in the tooth.

I would honestly buy one if to replace my aging BOXX/Dell Maya/rMan stations.

Now my PCs are locked off from the rest of the world (only for updates), I guess I would have to treat this unit the same.

As far as graphics and touch it really comes down to precision and accurate of the screen and pencil. I reviewed HP's Z1 all-in-one with touch screen as well as the iPad Pro with Pencil.

https://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2016/06/25/apple-ipad-pro/

The Z1 is not great for touch accuracy, but the iPad Pro with pencil is amazing. OTOH - the Z1 is a superb workstation - head and shoulders above the iMac for serious work and expandability.

Ironically, though, what Microsoft has learned from Apple in the Surface line, is end-to-end control of the ecosystem. There is also a definite attention to industrial design. I know a few folks with Surface tablets and they are very happy with them.

Interesting, how are you working now - are you designing and animating locally and sending final renders off to a cloud service, or mostly rendering locally and pushing big jobs up to a service? Would replacing your other machines with the Surface Studio change the way you approach rendering?
