Now if we can only get the forums names changed:

From:

Apple Final Cut Pro
Apple FCPX Techniques
Apple FCPX or Not: The Debate

To:

Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy
Apple Final Cut Pro X
Apple FCPX Debates

Everything would look even brighter. lol ;-)

Probably just me since I have upgraded eyewear due tomorrow, but I'm straining a bit reading the new black on white approach.

On the forum top pages, the distinction between what's read and what's not is clear. But once I go the the thread itself, not much discernible difference.

Again, likely just my aging eyes.

Carry on.

[Bill Davis] "Again, likely just my aging eyes."

Cow has dumped is for the millennials. The font and the size are difficult to read.
When looking at the posts within the thread there's no way to discern what you haven't read yet.
I think I have to start using the OSX accessibility features to read this site.

I find the white too strong; an off-white, ecru, tan, or gray would be less eye-straining. But please, don't use black for backgrounds to white text: when I stop reading a page like that, my eyes have burn-in after-images like the old plumbicon cameras.:-)

I hope Final Cut Pro does not get this look. Trying to edit or even color correct on a white background would be a nightmare to say the least. Tim, please splash some color around!

How about "Creative Cow: New Look or Not?" Pretty sure we can argue over the salt and pepper.

I'm of a mind to give the Cow team time to refine now that they've introduced something new. (Imagine that!!!)

The only functional thing that's really worth noting IMO, is that when I follow a thread link - it's virtually impossible to know which of the responses down below that screen layout I've read or not unless I use the BACK button.

I'm positive that's just something on the "to do" list - so I'll gladly be patient while we see where this is all going.

My 2 cents.

Bessie's just skating to where the puck might be, reading is so over, it's much better imagining what the content is like so that everyone always agrees with you - it's genius!

Subscriptions to forums seems to be inoperative - this is a bummer. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Did I miss an earlier conversation complaining about the old format and asking for an update? :-)

Settings are available to go back to the "Legacy" look if you need that sort of thing.

"Settings" at the top right of the page, then "Extra" tab in your settings page.

I like this new look. There's a bit of extra white space, but it's a lot easier to read on mobile and autocorrect works a lot better.

I know that we were taking a real risk by going with a theme dominated by black text on a white background. I'm not aware of any other websites doing it this way, so I'm not surprised at your consternation that we would take such a daring break from mainstream design. If black and white was actually readable, you'd think that more people would be doing it, right?

Anyway, we've always offered a variety of UI tweaks in your Account settings, which you can find at https://secure.creativecow.net/account/edit. You'll find the palette options on the Extra tab, labeled COW Wrapper. The previous default is now named Legacy Golden Pasture Blue.

(And yes, naming it Legacy was my idea. I came THIS CLOSE to calling it Legend.)

Enjoy!

Yours in love and color,

Tim, Is there any place that explains the logic behind the forums "trimming" that took place?

Lots of forums are now gone. I use to monitor Apple Logic Pro X and Apple GarageBand forums but they are gone. People have contacted me that the Particle Illusion forum is gone. Was it just forums that had no traffic lately? if so, why is Final Cut Pro Server still there. Apple Logic Pro X had more recent traffic than the FCP Server forum???

Not sure if this is intentional but now when I click ok a thread in the forum view it only shows the first post. You have to click on the Show Entire Thread link to see the other posts. This is viewing the non mobile version on an iPhone.

Just one bug report on the new look: hyperlinks look just like body text, so the only way to know if something is in fact a link is by hovering over it. I see how it makes sense to simplify hyperlink formatting on the forum view, but it seems to me that a post view calls for a distinct treatment.

+1

I agree it's a design flaw and is totally unacceptable in my book.

You NEED a visual cue that something is clickable. No one should have to start hovering over words to see what they can click on. That is a complete waste of users time!!!

While I like the new look, it's next to impossible to read as the font size looks like it's about 6 pt. it's even worse in the message window when writing a new post or replying to one. Especially on an iPad. Some newspaper sites have the option to select text size. Is that possible with this new version?
