You heard right, the wait is over. The new version of Resolve is here, in beta form! Going to install Tuesaday, still nothing new on Fusion, hopefully soon.

The magnetic timeline, it's magnetic-o-matic!

Does it actually play back material without dropping frames? R11 was such a dud that I have stopped looking at Resolve as an edit solution, only a color corrector when absolutely needed.

From what I can tell, it is highly dependent of the GPU, so it really
depends what card you have as far as good real time playback.
I have been searching through the 'DaVinci Configuration guide'
in search of approved cards, and can only find 10 listed 'approved' GPU's.
It also says that 'minimum' GPU RAM for HD is 2 GB, 'approved' is 3 GB
and 'minimum' GPU RAM for UHD/4K is 4 GB and 'approved' is 8 GB.
So in theory if you have a card that meets those specs you are good.....

I know it's beta but it still doesn't seem too responsive on a new Macbook Pro.

On my systems it's much faster, but still not fast enough. However I imagine that it will work well on a higher spec system

Anyone tried syncing multiple cameras by waveform? I asked about it at NAB and a BM rep said that function was still pretty raw so they weren't demoing it on the show floor. Hopefully it's made a lot of headway since then.

I'm running a 2.5 Ghz i7 MBP with 16Gb RAM, and responsiveness seems OK.
If I apply heavy grading and go back to editing, it does drop frames, but that could be expected.
So far like what I see...

Really, your fans don't crank up? What about when you scrub the timeline? Also, do you have any issue with audio when importing different codecs like mxf?

After layering a couple of more effects and doing some speed changes I get some fan activity.
Hopefully the main release will be a little more optimised - but this is a lot better than v11.

Guess I'll have to wait another year for 13. It's a pity because its such a beautiful UI. But I need my scrub and JKL to be fast and responsive.

Playback is still very choppy to the viewer in this initial beta. That's on the edit page without any grades. No better than R11 yet. FPS indicator appears that it is up to speed without dropping frames. This would appear that the refresh rate to the viewer isn't right.

My playback seemed fine. Not much testing though. But in R11 the audio and playback would stutter if you moved the freakin mouse during playback. Not true of R12. I can adjust audio on the mixer too, which in R11 just basically was completely a no go.

Not sure about Lite but in Studio you have to go to preferences to add more users.

A bit off topic but I think an important question. Is anyone using the builder in the new version of Sapphire?

Sadly David, I think you're going to be disappointed by Resolve 12, its a big improvement but I don't think its ready to replace any mainstream NLE's .....yet.

I agree, the edit page performance in the previous version reminds me of this:
