Has anyone seen this with Compressor 4.2?
on May 18, 2015 at 7:33:26 pm

I just did an edit in FCPX 10.2.1. I exported a QT MOV file, about 3 minutes long. Opened Compressor 4.2 and added a 720p YouTube preset to the MOV. It rendered pretty quickly and finished, but it left 3 files. They didn't merge into one complete compressed file at the end and then the one labeled shared 720p MOV disappeared leaving the other files with gibberish numbering. The processors then jumped to 800% and I had to reboot the computer. This happened with several attempts. I ultimately did it in Adobe Media Encoder without issues.

Is this a bug in Compressor 4.2? I still have Compressor from FCP 7 Studio and it also works.

I can't reproduce this behavior. I just took a small project in FCPX 10.2.1 and rendered to Master File Apple ProRes 422 LT. Then I dropped the MOV file into Compressor 4.2 and added the YouTube HD 720p output target and it rendered just fine. So if it's a bug, it's not one that's easily reproducible.

Funny. I can reproduce it reliably.

Yes but can you reproduce it reliably on multiple computers? It may just be unique to yours. Try duplicating it on another Mac if you have one. If you want to place the MOV file in DropBox or something, I'd be happy to render it in Compressor on my Mac and see if it's the source file? If it works for me I can send you back the rendered file so that you can at least use it. ;-)

I thought I figured it out. I rendered it out from my Macbook Pro connected to the networked volume through gigabit ethernet (Small Tree), also set up by Mr. Zelin and it worked.

When I'm connected to a server (10 Gigabit networked RAID 6) installed by the Mr. Bob Zelin, if I render to the networked volume I get the issue from my Mac Pro. If I copy the MOV file to the desktop of the Mac Pro and render it to my desktop (so it is living on the internal system drive) it renders fine.

Works over gigabit ethernet from a Macbook Pro but not over 10 Gigabit ethernet. Both systems are running 10.10.3.

Worked with Apple Enterprise.

It was a bad install of Compressor 4.2. Now all is working fine!

Wow, that's odd. Perhaps it's a permissions problem of some sort or just performance related. Glad you figure it out

No, it wasn't permissions. Apple Enterprise explained it this way: when you download and install from the App store, there are so many different servers involved, back up, primary, etc., that a corruption can be introduced.

Simply dragging it to the trash, trashing prefs and support files in the Application Support folder and then reinstalling fixed the issue.

I would not have guessed it was caused by a corrupt install. That's good to know. Thanks!
