Apple FAQ on FCPX: the Real Thing
on Jun 29, 2011 at 6:27:04 pm

A friend of mine was able to send me the first draft of the Apple FAQ on FCPX that were published today. Sorry for his english, he transcribed everything but he is from India.

"Import
Can I import projects from Final Cut Pro 7 into Final Cut Pro X?
No.
Can I import my video directly into Final Cut Pro X as I could in Final Cut Pro 7?
Yes, if you are lucky and not going to spend too much in those costly broadcast cameras.
Editing
Can I edit my tape-based workflow with Final Cut Pro X?
If Aja and Blackmagic are able to do that, oh well, we can’t care less.
Does Final Cut Pro X support multicam editing?
Multicam, multicam, fine, maybe, in the future. (Ehi, how many cameras do you take with you on vacation? Randy is fine with his Gopro!)
Does Final Cut Pro X support external monitors?
Yes, if video desktop is enough for you. If you are one of those Hollywood nerds who like broadcast monitors and color grading, the hell of you.
Can I save different versions of my project?
Yes, if you remember to duplicate everything everytime. If not, we can’t care less.
Are keyboard shortcuts in Final Cut Pro X different from those in Final Cut Pro 7?
Some shortcuts are the same, others aren’t, Btw, why don’t you nerds use a mouse or better our magic trackpad? It’s terrific, you know that?
Can I use my third-party plug-ins in Final Cut Pro X?
Ask developers, if they have money to spend...
Media Management
Can I specify a scratch disk location?
Mmmh. Yes. Why not? Ehi Randy, what the hell is that f***ing scratch disk?
Can I share projects with other editors?
Yes. But you have to copy everything. If you are one of those nerds who bought that weird XSan of something, we can’t care less. It’s our best joke in Cupertino. “Ehi dude, do you like an XSan?” Still laughing.
Can I store media in locations other than my system drive?
Yes. We think so. Whatever.
Can I hide Events that I am not working on?
Yes. Put everything in a new folder or unmount the drive if those videos of the wedding are too weird for our stabilizer. Don’t drink so much, you dude!
Export
Can Final Cut Pro X export XML?
We are going to donate a pretty API to thirty-part developers. It’s up to them to solve everything. Why we didn’t send our API before? Ehi dude there is a new iPhone going to launch, don’t bother me!
Does Final Cut Pro X support OMF, AAF, and EDLs?
We are going to donate a pretty API to thirty-part developers. It’s up to them to solve eveything. You can call those guys from Automatic Duck, they were able to make an Apple product talk with an Adobe product, for Christ’sake! and we never understood how the hell they have done it.

Can I send my project to a sound editing application such as Pro Tools?
Call those nerds from Automatic Duck! They were able to make an Apple product talk with an Avid product, for Christ’sake! and we never understood how the hell they have done it.

Does Final Cut Pro X allow you to assign audio tracks for export?
We promise: as soon as you ‘ll come back to school everything will be fine.
Can I customize my export settings?
Yes, buy Compressor!
Purchase
Can I purchase a volume license?
Mmmh, are you a collector? Or a kind of S&M guy? Fine: every 20 licenses we’ll gift you a video of Randy on vacation! That guy is terrific, you know that? He is on Vimeo!"

I honestly love how it reads with an Indian accent.

Very funny.
