As one of our facilities is located in Paris I have known this for some time but apparently they have made it official now: besides the BBC, the French national television group TF1 also has decided to go with FCP X for their news editing:

TF1 has tested Premiere CC and FCP X side-by-side for a long time. They found that both were excellent but FCP X won the bid because of its innovative features, as was explained by some of the people involved in the testing:

It's in French, but you will get the idea (-:

Thank you, Craig. That's the one. Their decision was already made in January but no-one really talked about it until the BBC news of today.

It would be interesting to know how they're managing this in conjunction with Avid Interplay.

Actually if you read the comments following the blog on yakyakyak.fr you will notice that TF1 decided to use FCPX in the field in replacement of FCP7. It looks like they are still using AVID (Media Composer / Isis / Interplay central) in house, in particular for their primetime news.

Not too surprising there. Most broadcasters are so huge with different departments/different workflows/different post supervisors it'd be really tough to have a single editorial platform across the board.

That is correct. Avid is the primary editing system with TF1, as with many national tv stations in Europe. Premiere and FCP X were tested as a replacement for FCP in the field editing department.
