My Chat with Al Gore
on Jun 28, 2011 at 10:42:43 pm

I'm at Promax in NYC and got to meet and greet with keynote speaker Al Gore just a few minutes ago. Working up all my courage, I decided to sandbag him with complaints about Final Cut Pro X. Here's how it went down.

ME: "Mr. Vice President, I'm a stockholder and fan of Apple. Quite a few of us are having problems with Final Cut Pro X. It doesn't do quite a bit of what we need to do our work. "
AL: "What doesn't it do?" he asked.
ME: "It can't open previous projects and doesn't lay to tape just to name a few. While I understand the need for secrecy the next time you get a chance, could you pass the word on to Apple that those of us in TV that use the Final Cut really need a roadmap or at least some official response on if and when we can expect these things to come back?"
AL: "I'll make sure to let them know".
ME: "Thank you!"

Maybe we'll hear something. He is an Apple board member, after all.

I didn't copy that edit that well. I was also incredibly nervous - please ignore the typos and poor sentence structure of that post :).

I admire your cojones for that one!

I gotta say, of all the questions you could have asked him you chose the one most important to the herd/hive...thank you for that.

In my mind he was a a member of the board of a company that's very important to me. It took SO long for us to get FCP to the point where using it wasn't treated with skepticism. I very much want to get FCPX mainstream, so I said what was important in that regards. I believe that this is going to work itself out, but not everyone can plan around that belief.

Perhaps a board member with a little clout can light a match to motivate Apple to clarify what's going to happen with FCPX.

[Jamie Franklin] "I would have called him Mr *President :D"

Me too, maybe he would have paid more attention.

Ahh, good on you. Shame you didn't hear the rest of the conversation...

Al Gore: Final Cut Pro? What the **** is Final Cut Pro?

Aide: It's a piece of editing software sir. You know, for films and stuff - like your documentary...

Al Gore: What the **** has it got to do with me? Get security down here now. Only thing worse than ****ing tree huggers are computer nerds. Now where's my latte?

or something like that.

I dunno. 10 hours later they released their FAQ that gave an acknowledgement of new features coming as well as a timeline (this summer). Maybe he told them to speak up so all these nerds would stop harassing him.

And I know it was totally unrelated. It's funny to pretend it wasn't though ;).
