Shipping says March for my MP w/ D700s... time to start thinking monitors. Don't have to be 30", maybe 27" (since there'll be two).

Recommendations?

edit: forgot to mention that TBolt is preferable.

There are no 30" Apple monitors any more. You can use any monitor with a DVI-to-MDP adapter, though.

I have a 27 Dell and a 27 ASUS; both WQHDs are terrific. The Dell U2713H is the same price as the Apple, but has better color performance and a matte screen, which I hands-down prefer. It does not have pass-through TBolt, but does have a USB3 port, and acts as a nice docking station for me. The ASUS is a couple of hundred dollars cheeper and doesn't have as many frills, but is a solid monitor with good picture. I enjoy working on both.

ACDs pop up on the Apple Refurbished Store from time to time for $799. I've bought several refurbished displays from Apple over the years and have never had an issue.

This is the cheapest one I've found at $450. I have one, it works well.

Nice. I read a review that said it used the same panel as Apple, but has the anti-glare coating so it's not quite as sharp. I wonder if Apple is coming out with a newer version any time soon that has the antiglare tech of the iMac. But of course it'd cost twice as much.

For the money we do like the ASUS....I think I have 8 of them on 4 systems. Went to them over the Dell ultra sharp. So far so good. With some tweaking of the apple color sync custom profile and monitor's internal settings we have a pretty good match to our external Plasmas.

I'm not a fan of dual 27" monitors. I've worked that way and the edges are too far apart for me. Here's a nice alternative. Dual Dell 23" on a common stand.

I find the timeline a bit too crowded on a 23 or 24" monitor. Not enough vertical space. My current setup is 27" main and 24" for events. It works well. Although I don't think I'd have an issue with two 27" monitors. I tend to divide my time up working on the timeline or digging through footage, so I'm not going back and forth constantly.

[Brett Sherman] " My current setup is 27" main and 24" for events."

Back in the days of the plastic bezel Apple displays, I worked on one system that had a 23" and a 17" (4x3). This actually worked the best, because the bigger monitor was centered and the smaller to the left for bins. This felt the most natural to me. I wish Apple would give us options beyond a single 27" for that reason.

I went with the LG dual 27's and love them - great color and contrast:

However, to match the sexiness of the new Mac Pro I'd go with dual Samsungs - by far the best looking monitor out there right now and would look fantastic with the new Mac.

I know how you feel. I was even contemplating getting the dell 30" that can rotate and using it in portrait mode. The horizontal would be a tad smaller but so much vertical space..

FWIW, I don't place my monitors side by side. I place then with enough space between then that I can see the larger playback monitor that I have about three feet back. This way I'm always changing my focal length, which relieves a lot of eye strain.

Ours are 24 inch diagonal and are actually a bit wider than 1920 x 1080 native. They have HDMI in as well as VGA and DVI. We use them in studio with 5D and 7Ds with HDMI outs. Light and easy and cheap.

I agree that two 27s are way too wide.

I'll be using my 30" Cinema Display with the Apple adapter... at least until there are some TB2 displays available...
