But was it edited on FCPX?

There's nothing we can't argue about on the FCPX COW Forum

I would have thought it would have said it was edited with FCPX - Looks great for iPhone footage.

Well if not FCPX surely iMovie.

But maybe Premiere?

you'd think they would have said. its not visible on any of the screens in the behind the scenes video either.

70 hours of rushes, 15 editors working simultaneously - you'd have to think that's a job for Avid eh?

Uh, I think it said 15 international crews - all feeding footage via satellite to an editor in the US - all on the same day.

Can't see any reason why there would be 15 editors for that.

And clearly, given the footage arriving locally, there's nothing in that edit that couldn't be done on iMovie, X or any other NLE including, presumably, Windows Movie Maker.

I submitted I think 3 video stories from NAB last year that were all shot on my iPhone. And that was an iPhone 4. Given good shooting technique and conditions, iPhones are perfectly capable of capturing damn decent footage.

Just don't pan that iPhone too fast, unless you love jello.

IPhones shoot variable frame rate, which can lead to some issues with NLEs.

You have to hold your finger on it to activate AE/AF lock to avoid that fun stuff.

Yes- It was 15 cinematographers actually, and 21 editors.

Last I heard Angus was still using FCP 7… Testing Premiere and FCP X, but working on 7. But this was about a year ago...

Apple.com lists the following apps:

iPhoto
iMovie
GarageBand
Pages
Numbers
Keynote
Aperture
Final Cut Pro X
Motion
Compressor
Logic Pro X
MainStage
iBooks Author
Remote Desktop
Safari
QuickTime

So, they must have used FCPX for something?

Isn't that just the universal menu at the bottom of the page, and NOT a list of software used on that video?

Lord knows you need an Avid to make all those cuts. No other system does a cut like Media Composer. An don't even talk about doing a dissolve with X....

Hi
I find it extraordinary - with 30 years hindsight ;-) - that Apple's 0th Mac anniversary (= birthday) announcement presentation contains NO video at all, except the 1984 Super Bowl ad, and a SLIDESHOW and animated screen grabs !!!!! All recorded on VHS (or 3/4").

I truly hadn't remembered how the huge expense of video production in 1984 ruled it out for everyone except the extreme elite…. Even Apple could only afford 60 seconds.

Watch it - much of the time Jobs could have been talking about the new MP...

If you give the right people enough money and access they could shoot that stuff on anything modern and it would look good. It isn't about the toys or the manufacturer, it's about talent

There's a clip around 1 minute in with a Japanese guy that looks like he's controlling little hovering helicopter things through his body movement. I'd love to know more about that.

There is also an iPhone grip/mount at 0:45 that I would like to purchase. It's attached to a red handle. Anyone know who makes that?

Thanks

I looked through Zacuto's site and didn't see anything like the one shown in the video. I wish there was some list of all the gear used in that video.

I think Zactuo only has a few:

http://www.zacuto.com/zgrip-iphone-pro

The only reason I thought of it because you said red handle.

I looked at the video at :45 seconds and didn't see anything like you described (or any iPhone handle at all) so I'm not quite sure what you are looking at.

I got this off of Amazon and it's pretty dang solid. Clamps on an any phone and screw mounts to a tripod easily.
